Capitol Building: The Capitol has hosted both Senate and the House of Representatives for more than two hundred years. Begun in 1793, the Capitol has endured fire, rebuilding and expansion. The capitol stands as a symbol to the triumph of democracy and freedom.
World War II Memorial: This memorial commemorates the bravery and sacrifice members of the armed forces contributed throughout the defining moment of the 20th century. Quotes from Eisenhower, Truman and Roosevelt are inscribed onto the memorial as well.
Jefferson Memorial: This memorial stands in honor of our nation’s 3rd president, an accomplished statesman, patriot and educator. The neoclassical design reflects Jefferson’s love of design and classic architecture. The memorial’s beauty makes it a frequent site for festivities.
FDR Memorial: The Roosevelt Memorial was dedicated in 1997, and has a water theme as well as four sections that represent FDR’s four terms in office and the massive changes in American life that occurred during his presidency.
Korean War Veterans Memorial: The Korean War Veterans Memorial was built between 1986 and 1992. The memorial was dedicated by President Clinton in 1995, and features 19 statues of soldiers on a triangular, circular intersecting grid design.
Lincoln Memorial: The Memorial commemorates the 16th president of the United States as an icon of hope and inspiration as a lasting emblem of liberty. The beauty and freedom the memorial represents is especially poignant now, as 2009 marked the 200th anniversary of Lincoln’s birth.
Vietnam Veterans Memorial: The Vietnam Veterans Memorial, one of Washington’s most sobering and reflective points of interest, is made up of three different features, most famously the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, the original structure, which was erected to recognize the sacrifice of the men and women who served in Vietnam.
